This text is designed to expose the Kenyan law on criminal responsibility and to define the common and key offenses created by Kenyan statutes. An attempt has been made to rely mainly on Kenyan case law, but there is a reference to cases from the other East African countries and the rest of the Commonwealth.
This research presents an analysis of the incidence, trends, and patterns of criminal homicide from among a sample of 484 cases committed between 1955 and 1966 in three districts (Ankole, Toro, and Kigezi) of Western Uganda. The primary source of the author’s data was the court files, both the district courts and the High court. These data were supplemented with personal interviews with village elders and policemen, newspaper reports, and other information. He also included an analysis of homicide among a number of other tribal groups in Uganda.

In this book, an effort is made to identify the basic causes of criminal homicide and, as the keen reader will soon discover, the variables considered are by no means conclusive; more research is urgently needed before we can begin to feel that we are beginning to have some primal glimpses of the basic causes of violence among human beings.
